You’ve seen those creepy ads that seem to follow you around the web. You visited Lenovo to look at new laptops. Now, every other website you visit has ads offering you special deals for a new Lenovo laptop. Damn! I’m writing this with my new Lenovo laptop!
Love or hate those stalker ads, retargeting, also called remarketing, works like a charm.
You want real prospects visiting your website, and who is better than the people who’ve already signalled their interest in your business by visiting you previously? Enquiries and sales are what matter and retargeting is a killer tactic to increase both.
Retargeting and remarketing can be enormously complex, especially for businesses that sell hundreds or even thousands of products. Fortunately, paying attention to just four basic things will be enough for most smaller businesses.
The first page your visitors ever saw about your business should have provided good imagery and a clear message about your business. As much as possible your retargeting ads need to convey that exact same look and feel.
Your retargeted ads need to contain an offer that is compelling enough for your visitors to click. Now! Providing a discount, a free download that solves a problem or something else of immediate value can make a BIG difference to clicks.
You can go through and create retargeted ads on an individual platform by platform basis, such as Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. Generally, you'll be much better off using a purpose-built ads retargeting platform, like AdRoll.
Research shows that it will take more than eight "touchpoints" before the average prospect reaches out to your business. That means that people may see and click on your ads numerous times before they ever contact you. Be patient.
